Request to rename to "Chicken Kyiv"
[edit]Hello! I'd like to propose renaming this article to "Chicken Kyiv" in accordance with the official Ukrainian transliteration of the capital city, Kyiv, instead of the Soviet-era "Kiev".
Several reasons support this change: - The dish originates from Ukraine, particularly Kyiv. - International standards and style guides (e.g. AP, BBC, The Guardian) have adopted "Kyiv". - The name "Chicken Kyiv" has grown in usage, especially after 2022, as a sign of support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and identity. - Even food manufacturers and restaurants have switched to the Kyiv spelling.
References can be added if necessary.
Thanks!

Kindly correct the title of this article to the correct spelling of “Chicken Kyiv”. The first sentence of this article should read as follows: “Chicken Kyiv, also known as Chicken Kiev”.
The translation from Ukrainian ”Київ” to English is in fact “Kyiv”. This change is required due to the russification and bastardisation of the correct spelling for Kyiv and these changes to the article more accurately reflect the true name of this dish. As this dish is of no relation whatsoever to russia, it is both grammatically and factually incorrect to be labelled “Kiev”, which is an English translation of a russian “Киев”. 58.109.5.90 (talk) 11:02, 19 March 2025 (UTC)

Not done: the C does not seem to be capitalized in the dish, this article only capitalizes it when it starts a sentence Cannolis (talk) 13:48, 15 April 2025 (UTC)

Chicken Kiev → Chicken Kyiv – Kyiv is misspelled in the title. Kyiv is the correct spelling. Stidmatt (talk) 11:48, 18 April 2025 (UTC) Stidmatt (talk) 11:48, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose, no evidence of WP:COMMONNAME. This is not a sub-topic of the city so doesn't need to follow the city's spelling automatically, its name is determined independently. Nor do we follow "correct names", we only follow most-common. Ngrams still has the current as overwhelmingly more common. DankJae 14:56, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:COMMONNAME. That alone should settle it but I will note that this is consistent with AP style.[1][2] We have the same situation with Peking duck, despite Beijing being established as the city's name in English much longer than Kyiv has. Side note, the lead lists chicken à la Kyiv as an alternative name for the dish despite there being virtually no evidence of this usage with Kyiv vs. Kiev.--MYCETEAE 🍄🟫—talk 15:53, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose - I see no real change in usage since the last go around. Fyunck(click) (talk) 17:58, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
